Fall Fitness Reboot: New Workouts, New Goals, No Excuses

As the leaves start to change and the air gets cooler, it’s the perfect time to refresh your workout routine! Fall is a season of transformation, making it a great opportunity to refocus on your fitness goals and inject some variety into your workouts. Whether you’ve hit a plateau or you’re just looking for a fresh start, now is the time to shake things up and finish the year strong.

Take Advantage of Fall Weather

One of the best parts of autumn is the crisp, cool weather that makes outdoor activities more enjoyable. Whether it’s going for a morning run, hiking through fall foliage, or taking a scenic bike ride, the cooler temperatures mean less sweating and more comfort while staying active. And with nature’s vibrant fall colors as a backdrop, it’s hard to not be outside!

PRO TIP: Try scheduling one outdoor workout per week to mix things up. It’s a refreshing way to break out of the gym routine while soaking in the season’s beauty, and the Bay Area has a plethora of hiking spots, including both beginner-friendly and more challenging trails.

Mix Up Your Routine

If you’ve been stuck in the same workout pattern, fall is a great time to try something new. Have you always been a cardio junkie? Switch it up by adding strength training or flexibility-focused exercises like yoga or Pilates. Or are you consistent with lifting weights in the gym? Consider throwing in some high-intensity interval training (HIIT) or functional fitness movements to challenge your muscles in new ways.

Variety is key to keeping your workouts exciting and preventing burnout. Better yet, changing up your routine can help target different muscle groups, improving your overall fitness and preventing plateaus.

Focus on Building Strength

As we approach the holiday season (and all the delicious food that comes with it!), focusing on strength training this fall can be a game-changer. Building muscle not only boosts metabolism, but also helps you burn more calories at rest. This will come in handy when you indulge in those seasonal treats!

Take this time to reassess your strength goals and commit to a consistent weight-training routine. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to level up your lifting, the benefits of strength training are undeniable. Set Fresh Goals for the Last Quarter of the Year

With the end of the year quickly approaching, it’s tempting to coast through the last few months and wait until January to set new fitness goals. But why wait, and put off bettering yourself? Fall is a great time to establish fresh goals that will keep you on track and motivated through the rest of the year. Setting clear milestones can give you the push you need to stay committed and focused.

Whether it’s increasing your squat weight, running a 5K, or simply staying consistent with your workouts, having new goals can reinvigorate your routine and help you end the year on a high note.

Give your playlist a boost

Let’s be honest—music can make or break a workout. This fall, create a playlist filled with upbeat tracks that keep you energized and in the zone. Think of it as setting the mood for your workout. I personally over-play certain artists until I get burnt out on them, and when I switch up my playlists, I definitely feel that boost!

Embrace Change and Stay Committed

Fall is all about change and renewal, and your fitness routine should be no exception. By embracing the season’s opportunities—whether it’s getting outside, switching up your workouts, or setting new goals—you can stay committed to your health and fitness journey. Keep in mind, it’s all about progress, not perfection.
